Absolutely!!! I speak Spanish pretty well and trying to learn Portuguese was way easier as they share many of the same words. But, be careful because that makes it easy to switch back and forth between languages :) try watching movies and listening to music in Portuguese that definitely help, and finding a gorgeous Portuguese speaking partner too :)
Good luck!!

I’m a bit perplexed as to why you refer to Portuguese as a “Spanish language” and then go on to put the name of the language in quotations. This all seems wildly politically incorrect to me.
But in any event, you should definitely learn Portuguese. The language has 230 million speakers, making it the 8th most spoken language in the world. Portuguese actually has more speakers than German, French and Japanese, believe it or not. Also, never forget that HALF of South America’s population speaks Portuguese. Brazil may be the only Portuguese speaking country on the continent, but it’s the largest (making up about half of the entire population of the continent of South America) and has by far the strongest economy. Brazil should soon take its rightful place on the world stage as a major industrial power. Have you ever heard the term “BRIC economies”? This is a term used by economists to refer to four of the most important emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India and China.
Now, Portuguese should be extremely easy for you to learn too. It has an 89% lexical similarity with Spanish (this is the actual number, not an estimate) so that means that you’ll already know about 89% of the words. Portuguese grammar is also nearly identical to Spanish grammar. It should be easy, and it’s a very useful language to learn.
I certainly resent your grouping the Portuguese language in with Spanish though– they’re two different languages. Minha pátria é a lingua portuguêsa!

Yessssofcourse! both languages are very similar in the grammatical form….(Italian is easier in the oral way)
I don’t spek Portugues and I understand an 95% in the Portuguese grammar.
Spa - Si entiendes/entendés Español, puedes/podés entender Portugués.
Por -Se entendes Espanhol, podes entender Portugues.
Adios! Adeus

Depends on how good your spanish is really, but I suggest you focus there.
But knowing Portuguese will help a lot should your travels take you to Brazil.

It’s not a must, but if you really want to learn the language, if you feel as passionate to learn it as you do for Spanish.. then go for it! Good luck!
