Goethe Institute is a good idea.
But as this is a hard language you need to practice.

There was a Goethe Society in Australia which promoted German language and literature, but you can also get German lessons at night schools, these will give you some idea of the language. Local technical colleges often have these, lessons usually 7pm - 10pm. http://www.goethe.de/INS/au/lp/lks/bib/e…
